Maiki Ghost Bear

Maiki Ghost Bear is an emerging two-spirit/genderfluid artist. They are Oglala Lakota

and grew up in Pass Creek on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Maiki went to college and graduated

in 2022 with a degree in Graphic Design. They currently work as a freelance artist doing various

things, such as becoming a teaching artist with their local community, creating graphic design

work, painting digitally and traditionally with various mediums, and photography. They describe

their work as “painterly-inspired illustrations,” that are usually made with ink, watercolor,

gouache, or digital designs. They are also inspired by neon/bright colors, monochromatic color

schemes, emotional expressions, poetry, and music.

“Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, there is only you, and I think you should do it because

otherwise, you’ll always regret it in the rest of your work if you don’t.”
